MUDDY AND WET CONDITIONS IN GRAVEL CHALLENGE BLAAVANDS HUK
The first edition of the Danish qualifier in the Trek UCI Gravel World Series in Blaavands on the westernmost part of the country had some epic and challenging conditions with rain showers in the night before and the first part of the race creating muddy and technical conditions in corners on the course.
The start was given in three waves with all riders below 40 and over 40 on the long course starting in two boxes with 5 minutes interval, followed by all riders on the short course as third.
Soudal-Quick Step rider Kasper Asgreen took the lead after the first lap but then faced some mechanical problems and finished as 27th.
The overall win was for Tobias Kongstad from the Pas Normal Studios team outsprinting his two compatriots Frederik Muff and Jacob Hingdsgaul. The trio had more than 3 minutes to the rest of the field.
The female race was easily won by Dutch Tessa Neefjes with more than 30 minutes before Klara Sofie Skovgard Hansen and Noa Jansen.
The average speed of both winners was respectively 33.1 and 30.9 km/h.
