MONSTERRATO, THE LONG ROUTE, 28 SECTORS OF WHITE ROAD AND A PLACE FOR THE WORLDWIDE CHAMPIONSHIP
TWENTY-EIGHT SECTORS: there are many stretches of white and dirt road that constitute the long route (about 125 km) of the Monsterrato Race, 9th race of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series scheduled for Saturday 3 September 2022, start and finish in Quattordio (Alessandria, Monferrato, Piedmont).
Twenty-eight sectors, some measuring one kilometer, others 10. Too few? Too many? We have already said it but we will repeat it again and again: forget the splendid “white highways” of other regions and events. Here the roads are “nervous”, grumpy, insidious, bewitching and betraying: at times they push you to very high speed, then suddenly if you want to stay in the saddle you must be ready to avoid the hole that appears from nowhere in front of you, to follow the trail of the tractor that passed early in the morning, to avoid the pile of gravel formed by the passage of wild boars in the night.
The white and dirt roads of Monsterrato can be mastered with resolution, respect and technique. Those roads that await you are at the same time “traitorous” and angelic, sincere, wonderful. Considering the altitude difference of about 1800 meters, which is not negligible over a distance of 125 km, it will be the ability to ride the bike and the quick reflexes on the carriageway sector that will make the difference for the final result.
At stake, there is also a place at the Mondiale Gravel organized by Pippo Pozzato in Veneto on 8-9 October, where you may start alongside some famous professional cyclists, specialized in cyclocross or Roubaix.
How about that?
